UFC 107 Gaining and Losing

Alright UFC 107 was looking to be one juggernaut card. With some changes here and there looks like were finally getting a clear look on what will be in held for the showdown in Memphis, TN.

Yes the card will not have the fight between TUF 10 coaches Rashad Evans and Rampage Jackson due to Rampage acting in an upcoming A-Team movie, but will still have one hell of a card on are hands, with a probable new addition.

A fight rumored to happen between heavyweights Frank Mir and Cheik Kongo might just happen for UFC 107. Both men have agreed verbally to fight, but no contracts have been signed. But with Jackson and Evans gone looks like they need a big replacement fight and this one just might fit into the spot.

Anyway the card is still looking to be a juggernaut like I said before. But with no fights set in stone there could be some probable changes. So far though the card is looking to shape up as so.

  • BJ Penn Vs. Diego Sanchez (Lightweight Title)
  • Clay Guida Vs. Kenny Florian
  • Cheik Kongo Vs. Frank Mir
  • Alan Belcher Vs. Wilson Gouveia
  • Thiago Alves Vs. Paulo Thiago
  • Plus Todd Duffee might be fighting on this card

"The Spider" In Repair

Looks like we won't see "The Spider" Anderson Silva in the octagon until next year.

He will undergo surgery on his elbow and will not see action the rest of the year.

So looks like a fight between Henderson and Marquardt just might be in the cards with Silva inactive.

Silva plans for a return in the early stages of 2010.

Swick Out

Looks like Mike Swick will not be fighting at the very upcoming UFC 103.

Swick was in a bout with Martin Kampmann at UFC 103, to determine the no 1 contender for the Welterweight title. That will no longer be in Swick's future.

After suffering a concussion in training not longer than a week ago, this forces him to step out of competition.

Frustrating for Swick he will have to sit out even more with filled cards at upcoming events. So looks like the only chance Swick has of competing soon is if another fighter falls into the same fate he had.

Paul Daley looks to be taking Swick's spot at UFC 103.

Neer Replacing Sherk

After numerous rumors surrounding Sean Sherk's injury, and who would replace him closure has come to the situation.

Sherk was supposed to compete against dangerous Brazilian Lightweight Gleison Tibau, but due to a shoulder injury he had to stay out of competition.

Josh Neer will take Sherk's place at UFC 104. The match will still remain on the maincard line up.

Neer is coming off the recent loss to Kurt Pellegrino at UFC 101.

Matt Hughes Coming Back for More

Matt Hughes the man that dominated the Welterweight division for a while just signed a new contract.

Yes, the long and successful career of the future hall of famer will continue on. But how much longer could this veteran continue?

Well after signing a multi fight contract, Hughes acknowledges that this contract should be the one to end his career.

So far no opponent has been announced for Hughes. Dana White does want him competing though sometime in early 2010.

Hughes also is expressing interest in a hunting show. An idea both him and the UFC think are possible and should make for a good time.

Lightweight Title Defense

After B.J. Penn defeated no 1 contender Kenny Florian to retain his title, people were already talking about who is next opponent would be.

So when was the fight going to happen? But more importantly who?

Well first the location. Rumors were spreading that it would take over at the overseas event at UFC 105 in Manchester, England. But Dana White went and said that was false and Penn will defend his title for a fight scheduled for December 12th. So after doing some comparing of dates looks like it will take place at UFC 107, a card rumored to have some great fights.

But the opponent? Well in the past, White said that a fight with Diego Sanchez will happen. So could this be the man who will try and take the belt from the UFC veteran B.J. Penn. Will have to wait and see?
